The suspense is frickin killin me!

It seems that with so little cap space available (1 mill of actual cap), current contracts need to go the other direction for anything higher in value to come back.

Lets just play for fun here with Karlsson for example, cap hit coming with extra baggage of Ryan of 13.75 mill, who do you send back? Meyers? That is 5.5 going back, you use up the available 1 mill in cap space but now you have extra baggage Ryan at 7.25 mill? Say Ottawa eats half and you are still short, send back Mathias, Copp? At that point, you are just moving money around. This example was just for figuring numbers.

Almost looks like some creative accounting (contracts going each direction) will need to happen for a trade and or rental.

Well, Brassard's an upgrade over Copp .. Lowry comes back and bumps Hendy off of 4th line centre (I like Hendy a LOT, BTW)

The question, as you've identified, can he play with Laine & Ehlers - can he make those guys better ? ... big question to ask in almost March of a (potential) playoff year

If we sign him and he doesn't make the two youngsters better then PoMo will have to re-jig the whole forward line up ... my thinking here is you have to put Laine & Ehlers with Scheifs ??? to get the biggest bang ... something like:

Ehlers-Scheifs-Laine
Conor-Little-Wheels
Perrault-Brassard-Roslo
Copp-Lowry-Armia

With Hendy, Tanev, and the rest outside looking in .... but now have I given our PK unit away ?

Not an easy question

trading for someone with term is not an issue, there is no rule saying they can not be traded in the summer. You are also allowed to go over the cap with bonuses, it just means those overages count against your cap next season

Lowry, Trouba, Tanev, Morrissey, Hellebuyck, have new deals coming, same with Petan (if he's here) and they will not be offset by Enstrom Matthias coming off books.

* We won't have all 3 of Buff, Trouba, and Myers here next season.
** Petan will not be back.

So, depending on who might be coming over, either the trading team eats cap or there are contracts going the other direction. Is it safe to assume that?

The second thing about your response is that Rexy is going to be upset suggesting Enstrom is coming off the books next year.

Myers and Buff will be here. Trouba will be traded. They have to IMHO

Hopefully they stick with the stellar team they have! if not, just add a depth player. Not sure if Minni would part ways with Cullen as a 4th Centre, or Letestu was actually one of the better Oilers wingers this season. Either one shouldn't cost more than a 4th rd.

If we could be certain Letestu could score as easily FOR the Jets as he has AGAINST them the past few years, I'd make the trade. 😄😄😄

The thing is. What do we really need? We have lots of depth on farm. Except defence.
Trouba will be back in time for the playoffs. We will have 8D healthy. Only thing I can think of is 4th line center upgrade over Hendricks. I think Chevy stands pat. Or unless something reasonable can be done for Karlson or Nash. (unlikely)

I have to assume that Brassard did not want to come here.
Surely Chevy could have topped the Pens offer.
1st round pick would be similar to Pens.
Comrie vs Gustavsson
Dano and Petan vs Cole

Hi Pete,

Why do you keep putting Copp at Center and pushing Lowry to the wing on all your projected lineups?

I personally don't see that ever happening but I'm wondering if you have some insight that others don't.

With all the guys we have to pay more this year. Morrissey, Bucky, Lowry, Armia. We can't afford to have 3 high price RH defence.

When they have been on the same line Copp has been centre. I have checked with a few people on this and Copp has played more C than Lowry when together.

Brassard still in play. The other two worth getting are Nash or Plekanic. We have to assume there will be injuries to current roster so we need some extra quality depth. Lets get something done Chevy so we can bring a cup to Winnipeg !

I'm guessing base don where NYI's sit in the standings that Tavares is no longer any sort of option.
